Saul Williams: Music We !!!
If you’re black, feeling misunderstood, have a way with words, and creativity is as innate to you as breathing, then you should consider acquiring a new residence in Paris. In 2009, Saul Williams followed the footpath to Paris left behind by James Baldwin, Melvin Van Peebles, Josephine Baker and others. It looks like it’s been good to Saul. He released his 4th studio album Volcanic Sunlight(2011) earlier this month. Below he talks about the meaning behind the album.

Oh, Jimi.
The first Jimi Hendrix Experience Album was released 44 years ago, today. Wish you could come back and grace our generation.
Marta Minujin: The World is So Boring
Arte! Arte! Arte! Marta Minujin’s simple but fervent motto leaves you with the feeling that in the absence of art, there remains little relevance to…anything. The Argentine phenomenon has been shocking the world with her larger-than-life work since the 1950′s, and has set a new standard for ephemeral art. From controversial paintings to dizzying installations, quirky fashion lines to LSD-inspired texts, breath-taking sculptures to prodigious effigies, and of course, the recurring reproduction and reinterpretation of the obelisk, Minujin’s art is nothing short of magic. Magic mushrooms, that is. Check out her latest projects here: http://www.marta-minujin.com/.

TY: Guys We’d !!!

Ever since 2003, when we saw Ty host and perform at a Blacklilly event with The Roots in Cargo (London), he has been on our radar as one of the funniest, most intelligent and thought provoking emcees. And a master of ceremonies he is. Album after album, the South London rapper has delivered quality, progression, and honesty. His rhymes are witty, his cadence is natural, and whether he’s backed by a full band or DJ, his live sets are worth every pence. We can gush about him for days, but we’d need a thesaurus to refrain from reusing words like amazing. If you’re lucky enough to meet Ty in person, you won’t be able to miss the honest to goodness presence emanating out him.
You might not catch Ty on tour this summer since he will be spending a portion of the sunny season mentoring and teaching students at Art Rules Aruba. You can, however, anticipate an EP release sometime this soon.
Yukimi Nagano: Birds like !!!
Seriously- Who doesn’t have a crush on Yukimi Nagano? With a voice like whipped honey butter, lyrics that can turn your day around, and an arresting stage presence, Yukimi, the lead vocalist of Little Dragon, can usually be found with ‘a sold-out crowd in the palm of her hands’. We love all members of Little Dragon equally, but we cannot deny that Ms. Nagano is a lucidreamers approved bird like !!!

Listen to Nightlight from Little Dragon’s upcoming album, Ritual Union. (Scheduled release – July 12th, 2011)
And then catch them on tour this summer. Yukimi is known to kirk out on various instruments in the middle of their set. This is not to be missed. Lucidreamers will be at the Roots Picnic on June 4th !!!
Badass drummers require badass album covers
And they don’t come badder than legendary drummer Tony Allen. Lagos Shake: A Tony Allen Chop Up (2008) is a compilation of Tony Allen remixes by various artists. We can’t speak to the content yet (we just ordered it), but the track list looks pretty impressive. The album artwork is so sick, though, that it might not matter.
