Stimela – from anti-apartheid to deep self reflection

I love following the journey music and musicians take. And how apt is it that the title of this song is Stimela, which means train.  I can honestly write a full essay about Wynter Gordon’s powerful control over her voice, the journey from the original Stimela by Hugh Masekela to her version on Doleo,  and how the this phase in Gordon’s career is going to be exponentially more inspiring than her songwriting and dance music background. Listen to her perform Stimela on NPR’s soundcheck, and check out Masekela’s version below.

Trust that anything coming from Brownswood Recording, Gilles Peterson’s label, is going to be excellent music. Check out Troumaca from Birmingham (UK).  Their entire soundcloud page jams.
